Tooth Extraction in Cary, NC

Tooth extraction is sometimes necessary when a tooth is too damaged or decayed to be repaired. While we always strive to preserve natural teeth, removing a problem tooth can be the healthiest option to eliminate pain, stop infection, or prepare for treatments like implants or dentures. Our team uses advanced techniques and sedation to ensure your experience is calm, safe, and free of stress. Whether it’s a single extraction or part of a larger treatment plan, we’re here to guide your recovery every step of the way.

Process of Tooth Extraction

  • We provide the choice of either anesthetic or sedation based on your preference. During your consultation, we can discuss the various sedation options that are available.
  • Once you feel comfortable, we will proceed with the process of loosening and extracting the tooth.
  • If needed, we may also use sutures to close the gums.
  • To manage any bleeding, we will ask you to bite down on gauze.
  • If you have been sedated, we will take you to a recovery room until you are fully awake. In case general sedation was administered, it is crucial that you have a friend or relative accompany you home.
  • Lastly, we will provide you with important aftercare instructions that must be followed.

When are extractions necessary?

Extractions are usually the final option to save a tooth. Removing certain teeth can have a negative impact on your oral health, so it is recommended to remove them before they cause issues such as shifting, infection, or damage in the mouth. There are several reasons why you may need or want an extraction, including:

  • Wisdom teeth affected
  • Badly damaged teeth
  • Cracked or broken teeth beneath the gum line
  • Baby teeth that are difficult to remove
  • Teeth that are severely infected
